Thanksgiving

Did you know that there is no evidence or supporting materials to draw the conclusion that a big "feast" between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans ever took place?

But I'm not complaining about the tradition. :)

According to the Plymouth Primer (produced in Plymouth, MA) there is evidence for such a feast, only from William Bradford (in "Of Plymouth Plantation") and in one letter back to England. What there is no evidence for is that they ate much of the food we typically associate with Thanksgiving. :)

i always thought this was the day that they were giving thanks for their defeat over the native americans? i don't remember why they were actually fighting though...

No, they actually feasted with the Indians - they were friends, not enemies. In fact, the Indians provided 5 deer for the feast! :)
